“There is an enormous need to prevent HSV infection in children, adolescents, and adults, and in general in countries like the U. S. This is the first oral or topical treatment for children,” said Z. Schmeltzer, vice chairman of the ACPD’s Division of Infectious Diseases.
This vaccine is a combination of d‑valtrex, a nucleoside analogue that is part of the herpes family of oncologics, and famciclovir, a drug that is part of the herpes family of oncologics. A vaccine for the varicella virus, also called VZV, is a viral strain transmitted through bodily fluids, blood, saliva, and vaginal fluid. There are currently no other approved treatments for HSV infections in the United States.
